I was told that these implants were safe and very good quality. I was also given a demonstration of the texture and the contents - an implant was cut in half and resembled that of a 'jelly baby'. This was to demonstrate how difficult it would be for them to rupture and that there was no possibility of the contents leaking out as the texture was not liquid form.
Quote: 1 no information on implant type just it was made from silicone. 2 I asked if silicone was safe, was told best in market. would only rupture in high impact ie car crash. if they did would not leak into body. 3 no information on aftercare, was told implants had no definite life span, could be buried in them every one different 4 none i called them & was given appt for consultation 5 no information, only told about incision type |
we was told no information at all about the inplants i had no knowledge of implant choices at all the company i went with clearly states on their broucher their is a choice of two types of implant saline liquid or silicone gel this lead me to belive this was the onlly choice we had..the surgeon reccomened these implants were as jelly babies even if cut in half they last for ever some people choice to have another operation after 10 years due to gravity...i wasnt given an info about ruture risks or alterative info this section is unsigned in my paperwork which ive seen for the first time two weeks ago........

I received general advice on care, wear a bra for a certain length of time after operation, and was told these implants would survive a car crash even if I didn't. I wasn't told the brand name or given a choice, just told they were cohesive silicone and they didn't leak even if ruptured.
Quote: I was told the implants were silicone and textured. No brand was discussed or even mentioned. I knew why surgeon liked textured but had no idea of the brand choice he had or the reason for his choice. Verbal advise to wear a sports bra and to refrain from lifting heavy objects and to take it easy. No information on risks of implants in general was given. No mention was made of life span. No promotional material was provided. No medical information given on risks of rupture or need for eventual replacement. No mention made of capsular contraction: this is significant and in my opinion, more important than risk of rupture. |
Very nieve trusted surgeon did not know had choice of implant was told would last a lifetime due to my age being over 40 and that in unlikely event of rupture if in traumatic accident that material totally safe to body and lifetime aftercare.
The only advice I remember getting was about massaging the breast to help stop it hardening, and that they should last 10-15 years, I wasn't told when over the 10-15 I should have checks.
I wasn't given an option on the make of implant, I was told they only use the best brand on the market... That they was the safest type too. My private clinic lied on both parts, they was just one of the cheapest brand in implants. |
Quote: My surgeon told me that PIPs were the best and most expensive available and that they should last a lifetime. I was shown cohesive implants and was told how safe they were. I was given information concerning Capsular Contracture and was told that the only way that PIPs would rupture would be if you were in a very severe car accident or were stabbed in the breast, and even then that the cohesive gel would remain together ~ which turns out to be a complete and total lie ~ I have had gel bleeds in both implants, one significant and that gel is somewhere in my body. I wasnt given any information about aftercare other than the type you would expect following any surgery. There was no information about the implants regarding risks reaching the end of their life as that would have negated all the other things I was told. Harley Medical Group didnt give me any promotional information about PIPs ~ the surgeon insisted they were the best, in fact no other choice of implant was given. |
1. i was told id be having silicone gel implants and the make PIP , and that they were the best on the market .
2. i was told all the general risks of implants ie rippling, breast sensation loss, pregnancy, weight gain and loss ,capsular contraction and sagging, but that the gel does not ooze if ruptured ,but not that it wasnt medical grade silicone with less protective layers. 3. aftercare i was given a instruction sheet of what to do and avoid , i was given an on call number, i was given an appointment 14 days after surgery and then another 3 weeks after. 4. i was told they had a life span of 15 to 20 years and long history of reliable use. 5. i was given brochures to tell me about surgical proceduers ,and was given a sheet stating documentarys featuring their companies, ie on itv1 and sky discovery health my surgeon actually featured in this. 6.i was told the risk of rupture would be by a blow such as a car accident and that the implants would need replacing 15 to 20 years if still intact due to their life span. 6. i have had my pip implants in just short of 8 years and my right one was ruptured and i have had no serious blows or anything to cause rupture. 7. i have had a few health issues in the last few year which leads me to belive has something to do with the rupture being a none medical grade silicone. |
All i was told is that my implants would last 20 years & they were the best on the market & if to rupture they were like a jelly baby so wouldn't leak into my body.
Was told they were the safest implant and would probably last 20 years. Was also told that if they ruptured, they would not leak, this is a lie
I cant remember getting any advice on the implants.
I discussed size of implants i wanted but not make of implants. I wasnt even aware at the time there were different types of implants available. Maybe i was naive here and hadnt done enough research, but the surgeon definatley didnt discuss any options. I was given standard advice on looking after the implants in the weeks following surgery but was told the implants were guaranteed so didnt think i had to worry about anything else. |
at the time of consultation i was told how safe they were and if they ruptured before 10years there was an insurance from pip of 1000euros that how safe they were and they would last a lot longer than that 15-20 years,i wasn't give a choice of implants just they used the best.i was told they didn't leak,(how wrong was he).

• What information were you given about the type of implant you were receiving?
• Were you told about any risks with your implants in general or about the particular implant type you were receiving? • What information were you given about aftercare? Were you made aware of the general risks of implants reaching the end of their life span? • If your care provider was a private clinic: - what promotional information and marketing was used to tell you about the surgical procedure and the implants you would receive? - what medical information did you receive about the surgical procedure, the risks of rupture of breast implants and the need for eventual replacement of your implants? a was told that this kind of implant could not rupture as it was a solid gel, if it did rupture it could not leak into my body! yeah a was told that a might reject the implant and also that may need replacing in 10 yrs. was told to watch out for infection. |

I was given very little information about the PIP company, it was all about product and very over exagerated for instance; I was told the product would last at least 25 year if not my lifetime, there was no mention at all about replacement, not even after 10 years. I was told these would be burried with me, I am not joking.
I went to an appointment with my sister , she was considering having breast augmentation and an uplift, they sold me breast augmentation whilst she had her appoinment, I never had an appoinment booked, I was in having my operation within 7 days of my sisters appointment. the surgeon explained briefly about the operation as my siter had taken up all her alotted time, and told me that I would have small scars, I asked for tear drop implants and he told me and my sister that they did not do them. I was sold PIP's over any other marketed brand on the market at the time and not shown or discussed any other make of implant. The Sales advisor, who was also my surgery co-ordinator showed us the product and the brochure which was given to me, this has no implant branding in it. I did my own homework about my surgeon but not about the implants themselves. I paid full price for the operation at the time which was £3995 there was no discount offered, just a referal discount from referring friends after the fact. I had no idea what size was being put inside me, he did not discuss this with me, he just asked me my ideal cup size. He did not discuss after care with me, that was discussed after the op with a nurse on discharge or I presume she was a nurse as I was not told. I was told to leave the hospital at 7 am even tho I was feeling unwell and had had my operation at 6pm the previous day, I had nothing to eat the whole time I was there and nothing was offered which is probably why I was feeling so ill. The after care was poor and non existent. I missed my two week follow up due to falling extremely ill from a canular infection from the operation, I never had a call from the clinic at all I had to call them to arrange another appointment, I have not seen my surgeon after my operation or on the operation day, the only time I have actually seen him was for the 20 minutes he was selling me BA. |
I received no information about the type of implant I was going to receive. The clinic did not go into the types of implants that you could have for example 'it will cost x amount for this type of implant etc;' none of this was done at the time of the original operation in 2004, it was just a case of this is the cost of the operation and what size would you like to be! It was quite interesting to find out that the cost of the PIP implants at the time was £80 as opposed to the cost of my new implants which are around £350. Guessing might be a case of cheaper implant more profit?

i was told by my surgeon at Harley Street. that my implants were the best and the safest around.
and if they did happen to leak or rupture that they wouldnt harm me. and that they would last 10 - 15 years or even longer depending how well your body accepts them. that was 5 years ago. i didnt know i had PIP implants till 02/02/2012 |
I was told that my new implants (PIP) were completely safe, would not leak, & that they would last me a lifetime. As I had already had implants for eleven years & had had no problems with them, I had no reason to doubt what I was being told. At no time was the brand of implant discussed, & I realise now with hindsight that this was so naive of me. I would not buy an appliance for my home without understanding what brand I was buying.
I was also given a demonstration of an implant being cut in half so that I could see the silicone gel remained inside the outer shell. I was told that the implants would remain intact even in a bad car crash. The female consultant appeared so genuine & I trusted her completely. |
I went to my clinic asking for Saline implants but they talked me into silicone as they said they were SAFER!
I was not given a choice of implant, I've since discovered that my clinic got a better deal with PIPS so never even mentioned any other brand. I was not aware that they were PIP until i received my paperwork after the op. They told me that the implants would last a good 15 years or more and that i would have unlimited aftercare but would not help me unless I paid them a further 3,000. |
I was not given a choice of implant at my meeting with the clinic nurse. She took out what must have been a PIP implant and put it in my hand. I was told that they were very safe and that they would not migrate around the body if they ruptured. I was told that they would not rupture unless I was in a serious road crash. There was information given to me regarding the risks of surgery etc but I did feel that all of this was very rushed to get a signature, payment and get the next lady in. They said that I would be a patient for life. They said they would give after care. This was all lies - the last entry on my medical notes was in July / August 2008 and I never had another communication from them until after the PIP scandal broke. Too little too late. I even had to fight until I was crying and shaking to get an appointment with a surgeon after I found out I had PIP's. The 'nurse' was a saleswoman in nurses outfit. No care, no after care. All lies to get your money and then you are out of sight and out of mind.

Quote: I was told about the normal risks associated with implants - I was not told,'of course there is always the chance we are buying in industrial silicon and selling it to you as the real deal...we hope thats ok, and should this occur - please dont come to our doorstep' Everyone says 'well you knew the risks...' like we deserve it!? Well - this is not your average risk of surgery is it. And no medical device should be in use UNTESTED - they do medical trials for things like that!!! And I wasnt told I was part of a medical trial either, I wouldnt have joined in! I was told they had an average lifespan of 16.4 years (quite specific!) now we know they were rupturing within 2-3yrs! I was told they were the best quality and that implants were perfectly safe these days - not, 'oh yeah, they were manufactured by the guy who had his Saline implants banned already' Go figure. Why the hell would you buy them in - somethings fishy considering all this and the price they got them at - and that other surgeons claim THEY knew not to use them. I was not given any promotional deal or marketing gimmicks. (apart from to try them under some clothes to see the look, which obviously will sway a girls opinion!) I have the PIP information leaflet for both surgeon and patient. I have all the associated risks with normal implant surgery, I was told rupture was rare and that these particular implants were strong and almost impossible to rupture which was why they were a good brand and that replacement, although on average is 16.4 years, is not necessary if you have no problems and they are still relatively soft, I beleive the woman that was on reception had had hers for 20yrs and not replaced if my memory serves me correctly, but I dont know which brand she had... |
my surgeon told me it was a silicon implant he let me hold it and told me it was a very good implant, also that they may need to be changed in the next 15 years but only if the need was their such as hardening of the capsule but that was very rare.i was made to feel very comfortable about the safety of the operation and i was getting the best.
The only information i was given was that they were the best on the market and i couldnt get a better implant!!!
No information really about this particular implant,it was the only one offered to me at the time. Was given limited information re problems and potential re op's. Aftercare was 3yrs and i was told implant are that good it would be 15 years before needing replaced. I used private clinic TRANSFORM. No promotional info ever used to tell me about the implant/surgical procedure. Medical info was concentrated more on the risk of a general anesthetic.I was told the chance of rupture was minimal,it would take a high impact car crash for example to cause them to rupture. They kinda glossed over this area to be honest. |
